What’s better than a cheeseburger? A burger stuffed with cheese!
The Twin Cities are home to many innovators, including 3M, Prince and the creator of the Jucy Lucy burger. Invented in the 1950s by a courageous man who ordered two patties with a slice of cheese in the middle, the Jucy Lucy has become a local favorite. Since its creation, many restaurants have attempted to replicate the revolutionary patty, sparking heated debates on which restaurant serves the best one.
I had the pleasure of trying four Jucy Lucy burgers from critically acclaimed restaurants. While taste is subjective, I found that Matt’s Bar had the best one. The first bite made me feel happy, warm and satisfied. Food is an experience that should make you feel something, no matter what you eat. So, the next time you’re in the mood for a Jucy Lucy or any other kind of food, take a moment to slow down and savor the experience.

Matt’s Bar
HOME OF THE ORIGINAL JUCY LUCY! Matt’s Bar & Grill, now a Minneapolis landmark, began in 1954 as a neighborhood burger eatery. Shortly after we opened, founder Matt Bristol explains how the “Jucy Lucy” was created when a local customer asked for two hamburger patties with a slice of cheese in the middle.
